I'm a diehard Sooners fan in NW Arkansas. There's a local talk station here that carries some brainless dude named Rick something. This guy wasn't afraid to put his lipmarks all over long-past-his-retirement-was-due AD Frank Broyles's rear end.
For example Broyles, who was scared shirtless that someone in the state of Arkansas would give their allegiance to another team besides the Razorbacks, refused to let UA play any other in-state schools. He preferred to send his money to various fractional Louisiana colleges, or perhaps North Texas State. Thus, schools like UALR, Arkansas State, or UAPB were not given any much-needed funds to provide non-conference warmup action for the wealthy U of A.
This vacuum-headed Broyles apologist agreed that this was a good idea! He said, and I quote from memory:
I think Frank has this right. If we start playing state schools, it won't be long before we're like Mississippi, with three schools constantly turning each other in for NCAA violations.
That's an example of the fine, upstanding local sports talk radio we have here.
